FinResidence

Finland eligibility estimator

Estimate residence-time requirements for Finnish citizenship and permanent residence. Calculations stay in your browser.

1. Residence-permit history

Add every uninterrupted permit period relevant to your calculation.

A = continuous permit, B = temporary permit, P = permanent permit. Permit end dates are included.

If your permit started before you arrived in Finland, use your actual arrival date as the first start date. Do not count days before both residence and permit validity began.

2. Trips outside Finland

Optional, but add trips during the period you want assessed.

The day you leave Finland and the day you return count as residence days, following Migri’s published guidance.

3. Choose the routes to estimate

The 5-year route requires the statutory language qualification. Special routes are not modelled.

These paths apply to applications submitted on or after 8 January 2026.

You can use a future date for a projection. It assumes the listed permit continues without interruption.

Condition confirmation

For permanent residence, A-permit time based on studies counts only if you have completed the degree. Permit grounds and other conditions still need Migri's assessment.

Application and test costs

Frequently asked questions

What does this estimate include?

It estimates selected residence-time rules only. It does not decide identity, income, integrity, permit grounds, special routes or Migri’s case-specific assessment.

How are trips outside Finland counted?

The day you leave and return count as residence days. For citizenship, the tool applies the published 365-day total and 90-day last-year limits; overlapping trips are counted once.

Where is my data kept?

Permit dates and trips stay in your browser and are not sent to analytics. A draft is saved locally only when you choose “Save on this device”; “Clear all data” removes it. Cloudflare Web Analytics sends page-view and performance information for aggregate visit, device and referrer statistics, without analytics cookies. Hosting providers process ordinary website requests. GitHub feedback is public: use invented dates and omit personal details.

Can I apply if the site says I meet residence time?

Not necessarily. It is not a recommendation to apply. Check every current requirement with Migri before applying.

Confirmed upcoming citizenship change — applications from 1 March 2027 Applicants aged 18–64 will need to meet a civic-knowledge requirement. Migri says this can normally be met with the new citizenship test, with specified alternatives and exemptions. Read Migri’s official update.
